Bradford Estates are delighted to be a delivery partner with Harper Adams Universitys School of Sustainability and sponsor of the SSFF Net Zero Competition. We believe it will help provide scientific evidence to support more sustainable and regenerative farming systems.
In 2021, we went in hand by setting up a new regenerative farming business, Bradford Farming, to take over previously contract farmed land. Our mission is to become a centre for excellence in sustainable farming, guided by a target to achieve net zero by 2030, as part of a long-term holistic plan to deliver broad based environmental regeneration across our land holding.
We have been working with local as well as national education & research institutions to advance the understanding of sustainable farming systems and practices. In order to arrest declining soil health, we have started to grow cover crops and introduce livestock into the arable rotation to build natural fertility, thereby reducing artificial fertilisers and synthetic sprays.
To enhance carbon sequestration, we intend to build soil organic matter, restore hedgerows and plant additional woodland. Working with stakeholders, we have a plan to desilt ponds and clean up historic water courses.
Our long-term vision across the wider estates is to eliminate the use of fossil fuel energy with renewable sources via solar panels, ground & air source heating and a potential anaerobic digester.
