Beer Day Britain, the UK's national beer day is on June 15, 2023. Celebrate Britain's national alcoholic drink by joining National Cheers To Beer at 19:00 as millions of people across the country raise a glass and say ‘cheers to beer' and use the hashtag #CheersToBeer.
This special day celebrates all beer including traditional ales, mainstream lathers and limited edition craft beer.
June 15 is significant because that is also the date the Magna Carta was sealed in 1215. The royal charter of rights agreed to by King John of England at Runnymede, near Windsor, mentions ale in Article 35.
"Let there be throughout our kingdom a single measure for wine and a single measure for ale and a single measure for corn…"
Britain has a dynamic brewing scene and an unmatched heritage in spreading the love and knowledge of beer around the world.
Jane Peyton, the instigator of Beer Day Britain says: "We have so much to be proud of with Britain's vibrant brewing heritage and current brewing scene and the fact that our pubs are a cornerstone of the social life of the nation. Without beer, pubs would be wine bars. Now we have an official day to celebrate beer in Britain, so please join us for a national party so we can make Beer Day Britain the best beer fiesta in the world."

Bruin Maufe of the Malt Coast Brewery, as featured in For The Love Of The Land II, says: "Our family farm is based within the Holkham Estate on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. We have been growing prime malting barley here for generations. With the sandy loam over chalk and coastal climate, it really is one of the best locations in the UK for growing malting barley. So, it made perfect sense to focus on this special crop when my brother and I were looking at ways to move back to the farm from London and help to diversify the business and ensure its survival.
"We founded Malt Coast in 2017, a craft brewery which uses the farm's award-winning barley to brew beers with a focus on traceability and provenance. We grow a heritage variety of winter barley called Maris Otter. This is delivered to the local floor maltings in relatively small batches and returned to the farm where it is crushed on site: a genuine grain to glass story. It was important to us that the diversification clearly aligned with the farm and it is exciting to be using our barley to brew these unique beers."
Here is their delicious and unique recipe for ‘Chocale Pudding'.
"I love chocolate and I love beer, and this recipe brings the two together to great effect. A chocolate pudding with unusual contrasting textures of a luscious sponge over a warm rich sauce," says Bruin Maufe.
PREPARATION TIME: 15 MINUTES | COOKING TIME: 30-40 MINUTES | SERVES 6
Ingredients:
For the pudding
50g butter
3 level tbsp cocoa 75g caster sugar 125g self-raising flour
Pinch of salt
6 tbsp milk
1⁄4 tsp vanilla essence
For the topping:
100g dark brown sugar 2 level tbsp cocoa
330ml Malt Coast Black IPA (or a dark stout/porter)
Icing sugar, for dusting
Cream or vanilla ice cream, to serve
Method:
For the pudding
Gently heat the butter in a saucepan until melted but not browned. Mix in the cocoa powder and the sugar. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl together, then gently beat in the butter mixture along with the milk and vanilla essence. Turn the mixture into a shallow, greased ovenproof dish approximately 23cm (9 inches) in diameter.
For the topping
Mix the brown sugar and cocoa powder together, then sprinkle over the pudding. Pour all the beer over the top.
Bake the pudding in a preheated oven at 180 degrees celsius (Gas Mark 4) for 30-40 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly pressed but the sauce remains liquid beneath.
Dust the pudding with icing sugar and serve warm with cream or vanilla ice cream.
